Indianapolis is a great city! It's one of the fastest growing areas in the Rust Belt, and there is a lot of new construction going on in our city (really, you should come visit some time).

--The weather is cold in the winter, and fairly hot and humid in the summer. The rest of the year it is quite temperate, and quite "average".

--Among the famous landmarks are the Soldiers and Sailors monument, the Artsgarden, Circle Center Mall, the Indiana Statehouse, the War Memorial, Chase Tower, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Downtown Canal.

--The downtown area tends to be crowded during regular business hours, and whenever there is a Colts or Pacers game. The city itself is very spread out, incorporating almost all of Marion County. The area has 1 million plus residents, with the weathy and fast-growing suburbs to the north (Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville) and more rural areas to the south.

--Indianapolis is widely known for being the racing capital of the world, because of the Indy 500, Brickyard 400, and many racing teams based here. It also has focused on positioning itself as the amateur sports capital, with many organizations (the NCAA being the most well-known) choosing to locate their headquarters here.

Some cities in Indiana had record high temperatures on 8/14/44, but Indianapolis was not one of them. The temperature that day was in the high 90's.

DD,

The answers for your question(s) are too numerous to list in this space. Any writer will tell you "research your subject". While asking here is a good start, I would suggest you go to the local library. Ask the librarian for all the information they have on Indianapolis. You'll be overwhelmed. (For example: the author of the book I'm currently reading took 16 years to research.)

If you have a specific time frame or topic in mind that will narrow the focus of your research. The results of your research will give you a more objective view of Indy. The answers you'll get here are entirely subjective. For instance...

I've lived in Indy four times. My first time here, I hated it (too many reasons to list). Over the years, as I've moved back, it has grown on me as the city has evolved. I work downtown and live near downtown (2 miles away). Some things I like, some I don't, but every city I've lived in is like that.

Anyway... back to research. Once you've done more of it, you can come back here and ask specific questions. You'll wind up with a better, well rounded story.

Good luck!

Indianapolis has the Soldiers and Sailors monument downtown, which is the world's largest non-Christmas tree iin the Guiness Book Of World Records. The Children's Museum is well-known, as is the zoo, and of course, the speedway wheer the Indy 500 is held. The climate is mild, with heavy snows in December and January. Madame C.J. Wheeler invebted her hair care products in Indianapolis. The downtown area is mellow populated. Beech Grove, Broad Ripple, Carmel, are some major suburbs.
